How much gearbox fluid

Wile I'm waiting for a new gasket for the gearbox plate, I thought I better find out how much fluid it needs. I know about taking out the plug ( which is very tight and i hav'nt removed it yet) and stopping when it comes out, but surely someone knows how much to put in?
