Declaring modifications

Post by JamesT0708 »

I know this is a very touchy subject, and I'm sure people have been over it 100's of times, but i'm sure there are people like me who still have doubts in their mind.

When I bought my B from a friend he had coilovers, Lenso BSX alloys and a custom backbox all fitted. He had only declared the exhaust and wheels. My insurance are strictly no mods, and so I removed it all. Since then I've had the backbox and Lenso's on for a few months, and no-one seems to have even batted an eyelid. This week I have refurbed my steelies and put everything back to stock, but I'd like to put the coilovers back on, which would be my only mod. Everything else would be stock.

I only want to go about 50mm, but is it worth the risk? Would anyone even notice? I know several people who haven't declared similar mods and have never been caught, but would like other people's opinions really?

Any input would be great, sorry it's so long

Declaring any mods is for insurance purpose only buddy its so if ya car gets robbed from ya or ya have a crash then its all covered where as if u say nowt ya will get nothin and in extreme cases ya insurance can become void as well

Loads of people run mods on standard insurance its down to individual choice but the proper way would be to declare it but i know like me personally just to declare colour coded bumpers to my insurance it went from £1650 to £10,130 so that made the choice for me

That's ridiculous man, to save that sort of money I guess it makes the risk completely worth it. I've spoke to a lot of people about it but obviously get a lot of mixed answers. It's just a case of if im involved in an accident where my car can't be moved, im up the creek without a paddle aren't I, and the likelihood is i'll probably get jacks**t even if it's not my fault. But that's only an extreme, have to stay positive I suppose haha

And the insurance always say you can choose your own garage for repairs, but you're not covered. If that was the case I could just take it to a friend or do it myself and no-one would ever know. The last inspector who came out to see my damage literally just did a 10 minute run around for damage with a clipboard then towed it away. And that's the last I ever saw of it haha

That's what mine was like but it was the radiator too so I was screwed haha. I think I'm going to risk it, the risk seems quite thin even if anything were to happen. Fingers crossed

Loved it man, was so nice to drive. Well, it still is, but you can never beat the noise of scraping over speed bumps and shredding tyres haha
