Sucks that it's the alt mate, do you have any places close that do recons would be about half the price

I'd get the old battery on trickle charge and see if it can be saved, get a refund for the New One if it can
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

I'm taking both into work tomorrow with me plus the alternator let the workshop boys do what they can.

Was hoping the old one is ok so I can take the new one back.

Have tested the alternator and not good news in afraid...

Put a multimeter on it I borrowed from work and it was running 8.60 volts with the engine off, and 5.30 volts with it on, turned the blowers and lights on and the car just died.

So can safely assume it's the alternator, so stripped it off last night and took it to work with me, also took the battery.

Alternator is shot and has been replaced, will have a new one in my hand tomorrow for £67 plus mine in exchange and my new battery is completky and utterly dead so that's been on charge all day.

Also picked up a fuel, oil and air filter and a set of plugs so busy boy Saturday morning hopefully this sorts it out :).
