Just hope u dont have to make a claim on ur insurance and u will be fine. If someone else hits u and it goes to thier insurance it doesnt matter, they have to pay out.
It's when he mows down a pedestrian, the police immediately impound the vehicle, insurance assessor/investigator sees non standard (and non declared parts) and refuse to pay out.. that is when he will have major problems.

To be honest I get fed up of reading about non declared modifications on club forums.. and it seems to be a running theme on the various Corsa clubs I work with.

There really is NO excuse. There are so many modification friendly insurance companies out there who dont really punish you for having mods on your cars, I really cannot see why people dont declare.

If you have a modified car, you need to speak to an insurance specialist.
I have an air filter, a sound system and some leather seats. It's not worth declaring. :coffee:

If I had any major modifications, I'd declare them, but there is no point. My sound system, if it's stolen, it's my stupid fault for not declaring, calibra seats...barely cost me anything, air filter..no performance advantage on a 1.2 8v engine whatsoever, just a nicer sound.

Anyway, it's my choice & risk to take and please don't take offense, but I don't want to be lectured about it. There are plenty of people here with redtop's under the bonnet and 1.4 on the logbook.

At least I have insurance, there are 1.5 million drivers on the road in the UK without it.
Actually you don't... When you claim or have a claim made against you, as the modification's aren't declared, your policy will be made invalid, and as such, making you have no insurance.
All the above comments are deemed an opinion, and in most cases :spam:

I know, I'm aware it's illegal and wrong but I'm not the only one. I hate to be singled out like this.

Dude, you posted on an open forum. I have only singled you out as I dont want members reading what you are doing and thinking it is the norm.

I'd like to make one point which has been raised before when I have made similar comments on a similar snenario.

I am not on here to catch people out, I'm not on here searching for undisclosed modifciations, points claims etc.. I have never been asked to do that by my company, and I would have serious objections if I was asked.

I am merely a car enthusiast who is empployed by Sky Insurance promote the business and look after our 90 + UK based car clubs and their members. I was recruited becuase of my knowledge of car clubs and vehicles.

Think of me as here to help, not just an insurance company.

If any customer has any questions/queries please feel free to post in this section or drop me a private message.

Thanks

It's a really good benefit to have you here to help us with any queries, I'm appreciative.

I just wanted to be clear that on websites like this (I've seen a fair few), you'll find a lot of people that have not declared modifications. If I've come across in any negative manner, I didn't mean to, I'm sorry, I'll stop replying to this thread now, lol.

Thanks. As I say, I'm here to help.

It's not a problem with me mate.. I've dealt with a lot worse.

I know what you mean.. you dont see so much of it in the Jap car scene, but there are a a lot of specialist (modified) car insurers for Jap cars so that could explain it.

I do feel for you youngish driers.. but again it is something that everyone has to go through.. things get better, trust me. Just dont move to bradford and you'll be good

i have insurance and been technically in two crashes but only one involved another car. But cos i got the "gift of the gab" (lol) i blagged the people to just take my contant details and said i would pay outright in cash as soon as they got estimate and work carried out i went to the garage and paid £400 cash, and given my excess was £250 it really a bad deal. And my car cost me £50 to do myself lol. Insurance is just there so i can keep the taxative, beuracratic govenment i dont really like happy when one of their officers in law decides to pull me. I was pulled the other day cos im in hull but the car registered in warwickshire and anglesy, wales; basically thought it was a stolen vehicle. They asked me a few personal details checked i had insurance and that was it. no problems with checkin for what had been declared on the policy yet and what need to be done lol. Gotta make time to explain to these guys what u mean when u say u been paintin bits urself, when ur a woman or student they just think it bodge and so dont take it very serious, one guy just said aslong as u dont care for the loss of any sunk costs were anythin to happen you should be fine. Basically assuming that if the vehicle was stolen it wasnt gonna be recovered and i have to claim back the base value of the car.
