Problem with accelaration when foot is down.
Hello,
I joined a couple of days ago, not just to have the question answered.
I have found at some random times. My 1.2 Petrol will struggle to pull away. Then suddenly it will shoot off. Like something is holding it back and then letting go.
I have also found that it can accelerate slower when the foot is hard to the floor than at half throttle.
It has done 40'000 miles. So is it possible that it could be with under use?

Is it 8v or 16v? Could be a sticky icv or maf or egr [emoji38] there only components that tend to give bother
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

My dodgy maf did that. Throttle halfway was better for the engine then full throttle as it would just drown the engine.. I fitted a generic one for about 25 quid never had a problem with it. Touch wood.

Thanks for the help so far.
It doesn't show any problems or warnings. Its the kinda of problem that is manageable but leaves you no confidence in pulling out unless there is a huge gap.

Still got the problem.
So far we have replaced the HT leads, spark plugs and air filter. Next on the list is the fuel filter.
Put fuel treatment into it as well.

When you put your foot down it do nothing then suddenly the revs jump up or does it do nothing then the revs slowly build up?Dmanlewis wrote:Still got the problem.

Re: Problem with accelaration when foot is down.
When It does it. It mostly in 2nd gear.
So example. Foot down accelerating.. 20mph it will stay at that maybe reach 25mph in about 5-10 seconds. Then suddenly, it will rev up and the speed will shoot up like normal.
It doesn't do it every time.

Have you ruled out a slipping clutch
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

Like Johnny said check the clutch. Sounds to me somewhere along the line something is gettin stuck but for it to only do it in second gear confuses me so I wouldn't be able to shed any light sorryDmanlewis wrote:When It does it. It mostly in 2nd gear.

Re: Problem with accelaration when foot is down.
I agree with johnny mate but the other thing could be a gearbox issue as its happening in second gear mainly could but a syncro mesh issue i.e not engaging properly hense the delay then sudden erge of power

Re: Problem with accelaration when foot is down.
I would think if it was a gearbox issue the engine would still Rev and race away with itself. Rather than the revs holding steady then shooting off.
Is this a 1.2 8v?
