Re: Old man's gonna go racing
I have too many days' leave available, so decided to take a couple of days and use it on the car. Kyalami track day is coming, and I really want to take this cabbie there for a shakedown...
Anyways, I spent today finishing the sanding on the outside. Removed some bits on the inside that are no longer needed, and while I was busy, I decided to take out all the sound-deadening materials on the floor of the car - what a shyte job to do. Basically had to chisel most of it out with a hammer and screwdriver. Got it all out, but there is still a lot of glue on the surface. Thinners seems to soften it up, but it makes a really gooey mess. Will just have to get it off tomorrow, then I can hit it with paint after that. Will first paint the body inside and out. Once that is done I can get it out to have the rollcage fitted. In the meanwhile I can then get busy on painting the doors, bumpers, mirrors, tailgate, bonnet and whatnot...
Clock's ticking...
Will take some pics tomorrow

What a job getting it from this:
To this:
At least that is now done... Now just going to give the whole lot another wipe with a clean rag with thinners, then into the spraybooth (aka my garage lol ) we go!

Primered it inside and out yesterday. Gotta work this weekend, so won't be able to do anything to it for a couple of days...
Monday morning I will be taking it through to TNT to have the rollcage fitted - very excited!

Re: Old man's gonna go racing
Car is painted!
Inside and outside painted white, cage too. Just left the floor where the seats go unpainted as I'm still going to be climbing in and out of the car plenty times - will paint that just before the seats go in.
The finish is not too bad, considering it's the first time I've ever tried painting a car. Will polish it today and see what it looks like once done

Re: Old man's gonna go racing
So ths mornng I had a proper look at the paintjob in the light. Wasn't too happy with the result, so sanded it down a bit and gave it more paint. Much happier now. Will attack it with the polisher tomorrow night and hopefully achieve a suitable finish on it.
Decided to put the dash's skeleton in... If you have never attacked a dash with a jigsaw before, you should try it - quite liberating actually. The first cut is tough to make, but after that you kinda go for it lol

What a good job you have done. How did the round piece come off on the dash above the glove box?

Thanks, Buddy!
If I remember correctly, once you have removed the vents you can get it off.

Re: Old man's gonna go racing
Thanks, Mate
I stood back looking at my white Corsa standing proudly in the garage, then my eyes drifted to the red bonnet, tailgate, doors, mirrors, fender trims etc... Still have a lot of painting to do haha
At least I can now work on the car at night again - weather's better, and I can start with putting stuff back in the car. Will paint the other bits on weekends.
Think I might just put the wiring harnesses in tomorrow night...

Re: Old man's gonna go racing
It's what we call a copper clutch around here. Prevents slippage very nicely. I choose to use one to ensure it doesn't slip on gearchanges as the race progresses. I'm sure it will work well
