Opel Corsa Gsi 98

Post by ilmaster »

Hello, I present my Opel Corsa GSi 1998.
This version does not have the sports side skirts and bumpers.
It only has the spoiler.
I started the phase of relief, I removed the seats, plastics, carpet and tar.
The initial project was it orange, but I changed my mind because I would be more visible to law enforcement.
I chose the color white (white olimpyc).

You made a good decision in choosing a right one color. However, it was on the outside design of the car. This is in the ability of the car that has a best GSi model.

welcome to the site mate, looks like a great project, whats the plans for it?
OFFICAL DVLA DATA:
1414 - corsa gsi's on the road in 2008.
735 - corsa gsi's currently on the road and 436 SORN
Basicly you would have to be a right tw*t to break one for parts

Thanks to everyone for an awsome weekend at pvs!

It all started with the idea of buying a car to have some fun (the first idea was sporting the 500, but that bitterness ... 55cv).

I did a search for small sports car and a low price.
It came out:
- 106 (1.3 or 1.6) but discarded because they are often exploited and several car owners
- Clio 1.8 16v idem in most major operating costs
- Mazda mx5 too expensive
- Toyota MR2 too expensive
- Micra super s, 1300 75cv think it is a lung

eventually I found a surprise announcement of an Opel Corsa GSi close to 700 €, which in the end I paid € 400 including dealing with the review (65 €).

And I got it.

The car has 128.000km, the body had some bruising.
More than burnt head gasket, but you could see little, water and oil were clean.

The first idea was to do battle, painted with quick drying paint, lighter, plastic bumpers grace and knobbly tires.
In the end I decided to make a car for track day use, but apparently in good standing with the traffic to move it and use it in peace.

Appanoose had purchased the following items:

- Strut braces
- Eibach springs
- Terminal csc

Even a day before I took the car arrived and the word gsi skirts.
Image
Image

Ok.
I began to lighten
I deleted everything ....
Front and rear seats, carpet, all plastic, I left only the dashboard.
I removed the hair-dryer sheets of tar.

Image
Image

Image
Image
Image
The removal of tar from the inside was a big job.
I first removed the "big" with a hair-dryer and a scraper, then the rest with thinner sponge scraper and ...

Inside, I decided to paint it with paint, fast drying, durable and economical (12 € 1kg).

The first idea of coloring the car was this ... (later abandoned)
Image

Image

After you have wrapped all that was not to be painted in co started painting.
Image
Image
Image

After several arguments about too much visibility to the police orange car (not passed by unnoticed), I decided to
change color .... White.

________________

I fixed the drafts on the roof and I painted with the paint appropriate (130 € per kg inclusive of diluent and catalyst)
The color is white Olynpic opel, should be the new Astra and Corsa, is almost pure white with 2 drops of blue.
Unfortunately, two outputs are sagging, and for the consistency of paint different from the usual "quick drying" is why I raised the car on one side for convenience.
anyway I removed the card 1000, then with the 2000 ...

Image

A bit of dents repaired and ready for painting ..

Go with the painting ...

Image
the first bonnet
Image

Image

Image
test extractors

Image

Image

Image

Image
The welding of the supports for the extractors has gone wrong ...

Image
The bonnet was wrong.

Image
Since I did not want to straighten the old man I got a new collapse.

Image
To make the cut at the beginning I used the dremel Moletta, but then I decided to go the hard way.
I did everything with the angle grinder.

Image

Image

Meanwhile the car is out with the old bonnet ...

Image

Take this opportunity to make folders in the branches polionda ... light
Image

Image
I have the switches mounted in the hole for the speaker, I made two wooden brackets
to hold the plate switch.
(The plate comes from a former piece of 145qv so at least I gained 3 hp)

Image
Image
Image

Image
Special handle (I've sewn myself)

Image

Image
Painting small pieces ...

Image
painting final bonnet (with chaos / sty in the background)

Image
mount extractors.

Image
Painted skirts

Image
Extractors fitted.
I used to stare back and I have 3 dice breaded on the 3 pin plastic extractors then I put a bit of liquid steel here and there ...

Image

Image

Image
Last touch of class ... directly from the USA.

______________
Although there is still the front bumper that I could not find, we proceed to mechanics.
Image
Collectors steel.

Image
Mantzel type intake manifolds ... with 70mm butterfly.
The only problem is that since I had to be dismantled to remove the head mount.

Image
H & R Springs bought in germany ... perfect. The Eibach kit that was assembled by 3cm.

Image
This is a small modification to the seat of the shaft to lift the bonnet.

Image
Here I removed the old collectors.

Image
testing of new collectors, the only problem is that you should review the tube that connects them to the catalyst.

Image
This is a complete kit PowerFlex I paid € 60 shipped ... won the auction on ebay.

Image
Since I have to remove the organs of the suspension, I decided to write a nice refreshed with the usual quick-drying paint ...

Image
After removing the intake manifold lousy here is the original butterfly.
Image
is smeared with oil.

Image
In fattempo I replaced the springs ...

Image
and I attached the brand gsi 16v

As the bumper gsi is unavailable at a reasonable price in Italy, I decided to try
to build it from me.

These are photos of the first idea ...
I used sections of balsa (wood model) and the string.
But then I left because I had started too eye.

Image

Image

Image

To make the new I always make good use of the sections in balsa, but I made more precise and this time,
I have connected with the masking tape, then I have stretched out over a little bit of paper mache,
then the glass fiber and end the filler metal.

Once finished I will have to make the mold and then the real piece of fiberglass.

Image
This is the final one before grouting.

Here I start to disassemble the head.

Image

Image
After removing the timing belt

Image
Crankshaft. I made the mark with a pen ... but we do not need all the points are scored.
can not go wrong.

Image
I finally had to remove the head.
to make this work you need female torx keys, make no mistake I bought all measures to
the tool case 1 / 4 and up to 20 tools for 1 / 2.

Image
Here the head.

the idea of the bumper has been abandoned.
I managed to find a front bumper gsi. In Italy it is very difficult to find, from October that I seek.
