Rattling noise.

Post by tonyhugill »

I seem to have a rattling noise coming from engine when at low revs. Someone suggested timing chain but according to Haynes I have a belt and not a chain. My thrust bearing is worn (has been for a while) so could it have anything to do with this?. Any help would be appreciated

1.2 8v is belt and 1.2 16v is chain. Not sure if the hydraulic tappets rattle or not.

Just looked at the old mot and it says "exhaust vibrating against body" or somethink like that. Wonder if it could be that

Just sat in it and reved it. It doesn't make the rattling sound at all, only when its moving and at low revs, seems to be worse if I change gear too early (put it in 4th at 20 mph)

Sounds like exhaust is hitting tbh
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

I'll have a look in morning. I did give the exhaust a shake the other day and it seemed solid.
