1.4 gearbox removal

Do you have circlip pliers like, spline sockets and a slide hammer? I only ask because there not run of the mill tools that come with sets and if you don't have them you can't do it

If you do there will be a deep indent where the shaft is and at the bottom of the indent is the circlip that needs to be removed
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway :thumbs:

I might just take the box out any way, be an experience if nothing else ha ha

What does the access panel look like? I've heard it called half moon shaped bit I've also heard people say its square

Its a bit of tin that looks like a half moon it's held on by 4 11mm bolts

Is it on the gearbox side or the engine side?

The half moon is on the gear box side

Had a proper look under the car this morning while I had chance, seems I do have the half Moon plate, I was looking in the wrong place. Downside is, its very close to the oil sump and it looks like it might get in the way as my hands are massive so I might not be able to get to the thrust bearing to change it

Sorry for the poor image bit is that the inspection plate between the bell housing and the engine next to the sump.? All I can see when I take it off is the back of the flywheel

thanks for the advice on this everyone, sorted now. bought clutch kit for £45 and garage fitted it for £80
