starter motor ginding when starting up.

Post by LoneStarGTx76 »

Hi all.

My first post and already a problem lol

Anyways.

When I start up my Corsa P-Reg 1.4 8v it makes a grinding sound when key is turned and stops after the engine starts.

Can anyone show me with pictures where the starter motor is as im going to try and see if it needs earthing better or worse can see which one it needs to replace with.
Anyone know the part number or version I need if it does need replacing?

Thx ppl

firstly hello and welcome :D

it could be that the teeth on the starter motor are on the way out therefore it makes contact and starts the car but it is slippin on the teeth on the flywheel or vice versa, i havent a picture but i was helpin my mate out wit his starter motor on his GSi and im guessin the starter motor will b in the same place, but as u look under the car from the front, at the rear of the engine bay u will see the drive shafts, (you will need a torch to see it properly) but if u look above the drive shafts u will see a large cylindrical object and above this a smaller cylinder, both are to do the starter motor, the larger is the motor itself and the smaller is the soleniod, off the soleniod there should b 4 wires, at the top, 2 wires 1 black 1 redcolour, bottom a single wire brown, and to the right there will b a thin wire which comes from the switch on the back of ur ignition key which is coloured black with a red strip on it.

i hope this helps

Hi,
thanks for the reply.
Which wire is the earth wire and would it help if I made sure all the contacts are not mudded up or something else.

How much would one cost and is it possible to just get a 1.4 8v from Ebay as are they all the same?

yes please. Can you find out more as need car for work as well as wife does as only one car.

If its the same then maybe you can find out if I could replace it on the car myself instead of paying high price at garage as not much money.
Also maybe if it is the same we can come to some arrangement for you to send it to me.
