exhaust rattle

Post by chris477 »

Hi all just wondering if anyone else gets this problem.

A while back the pipe that connects to the back box rattles of the rear axle.
I took it to the garage and they sorted it at the same time of doing my head gasket.
But it's come back after about 3 months or so.
I don't want to take it back to the same garage as they have messed up my speedo(but that's another story).

Does anyone else have this problem. If so how to sort it.

Thanks
Chris

The rubbers are brand new. Not missing any.

I would check your heat shield they are known to rot around the 10mm nuts they then come loose

There's a couple ways to stop it hitting the axle, loosen the clamp and twist the exhaust so it's further up, get some heat resistant rubber and tie it round the axle or buy some poly rubbers to hold the exhaust tighter
If it doesn't fit,
force it,
If it breaks,
It needed replacing anyway

As above, it's a common problem with them. Some pattern exhausts don't fit quite like the original and sit a bit too close to the rear cross beam. I assume it isn't lowered at all?

Worth checking the rear springs and shocks, it tends to be worse when the shocks are worn.

Just got to fiddle with it till you get it right. Think I took mine on and off four or so times before I had it exactly how I wanted it. Every time I put my work gear in it just bounced like mad

Had the same problem on my corsa b after I changed the exhaust centre section nothing would sort it until just yesterday I removed the rear silencer and added an aftermarket rear can off a mk5 fiesta now no rattle just the nice deep note coming out the back instead [emoji4]

Mine got that bad before I got it right I went to get the welder out
To just weld the thing to the body. Nothing worse than knocking exhaust
